Major Demographic Changes in the Last Decade

One of the largest demographic shifts is the increase in Richmond’s Hispanic or Latino population, which went from over 12,690 in 1990 to 26,319 in 2000. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the 2005 population at 32,667, but the margin for error was over 8,000. Meanwhile the black population has dropped from 38,260 in 1990 to an estimated 27,805 in 2005, though again the margin for error was great, at nearly 5,000 people.
